What is Donkatsu(Korean)?

Donkatsu is a Korean pork cutlet. It is usually known as a Japanese food but there are many different kinds of it. In Korea we have special sauces that is spread on top of the meat. The meat is deep fried and crispy. People in Korea usually eat it with rice, small side dish salad, and dan mu ji which is a Korean yellow pickled radish. Long time ago in Korea people couldn’t eat Donkatsu as often like today because it was very expensive in those days. Only rich people could go to a restaurant and eat Donkatsu. Even the rich people couldn’t eat it that often, so they ate it only one special days.

What is Bossam?

Bossam is a Korean pork dish. It is a thinly sliced pork meat that is boiled in a broth of spices. Bossam is usually eaten with radish kimchi or normal kimchi, raw garlics, ssamjang which is a special Korean sauce, saeu jeot which is small shrimps that are salted with salt, and other vegetables. People usually eat it with salty side dishes because it would be too greasy if they don’t eat anything salty.

What is Samgyetang?

Samgyetang is a Korean chicken soup. It is made with chicken, ginseng, different kinds of spices, and sticky rice. The chicken is cooked in boiling broth made with ginseng and spices. The sticky rice is used to stuffed inside the chicken so that later on when you eat the chicken you will have some sticky rice to eat with. Samgyetang is usually eaten in summer because it is a good stamina food to eat when you don’t have energy form of the heat or anything. Many eat this in the fall and the winters too because it is warm so it heats your body. You would taste a lot of ginseng and other kinds of spices when eat Samgyetang.

What is Hobakjuk?

Hobakjuk is a Korean pumpkin porridge. It is made with pumpkins and sugars. It is sweet, warm, and good. Most of the times people put special rice cakes inside the porridge and heat it together so that the taste will be better. Many eat this for snack or dessert but sometimes people eat this for breakfast too! It is popular during the fall and the winter because it is cold but this porridge would help you get warm. Many people give Hobakjuk to those who had surgeries because it means to get well sooner or heal faster. On top of it some people put some nuts so that the nuttiness will blend in with the flavour of it.

What is Tangsuyuk

Tangsuyuk is a Korean fried meat. They usually eat it with a sweet sauce. Sometimes there may be fights over people who like to deep the meat in the sauce or who like to spread the sauce on the meat. They fight over it because some people are sensitive on the meat being less crispy because of the sauce. Tangsuyuk is often eaten with Jja Jang Myeon and Jjam Ppong. Many people like Tangsuyuk because it is sweet.

What is Jja Jang Myeon?

Jja Jang Myeon is a Korean noodle dish. It is commonly eaten in Korea just like how many people eat Jjam Ppong. Jja Jang Myeon is not a spicy food but it is a sweet and salty food. Its sauce is made with black bean and a special sauce that is used for Jja Jang Myeon most of the times. When parents go to restaurants, where they sell Jjam Ppong, with kids they usually order Jja Jang Myeon because it is not spicy at all but it is delicious. In Jja Jang Myeon they usually put some chopped vegetables and some thinly cut meats. they usually put some sliced cucumbers on top to make it look more good.

What is Jjam Ppong?

Jjam Ppong is a Korean food that is spicy. It is a famous food because you can eat it quick and it has seafoods in it. It is a noodle that has many different kinds of seafoods. Jjam Ppong is made with strong fire so that it cooks faster and taste better. It is red because they put different kinds of Korean chillies in it. It is not always red. Sometimes they sell white Jjam Ppong. White Jjam Ppongs are the same as normal red Jjam Ppong but it has a different kind of spiciness because they use different kinds of chilli. If they used red chilli for the red Jjam Ppong, they would use green chilli for the white Jjam Ppong.

What is Tteok?

Tteok is a Korean rice cake. It is used in many different kinds of food. Tteok is usually made with grinded rice but sometimes it is made with wheat flour. Tteok is very chewy and it is usually eaten as a dessert. Tteok is sometimes used in Korean stews. It is an interesting food to eat because it doesn’t have a strong taste in it but it has this blend taste that is very addictive. Sometimes people put grinded red beans on top of it to make it taste better. I personally like the ones that has honey inside because it makes it sweeter and better. A lot of times, people use Tteok in special days like someone’s birthday or their babies first birthday.

What is Sikhye?

Sikhye is a sweet Korean rice beverage. Sikhye is a dessert that contains cooked rice in it. It sounds weird having a rice inside a drink but it tastes good because it is sweet. Sikhye is one of the most popular drinks in Korea. Sikhye is a Korean traditional drink that could be found commonly in special festivals. The rice inside Sikhye is very good because the sweetness of the drink makes the rice sweet too. It has this barley smell that is unique.

What is Budae Jjigae?

Budae Jjigae is a Korean stew that contains sausages, hams, rice cakes, fish cakes, noodles, and different kinds of vegetables. Budae Jjigae was made long time ago when a war happened in Korea. People in Korea couldn’t eat anything because of the war, so people were finding all the left over food that they could find at the army base. The people just put all the foods they found into a pot and just boiled them all up into a stew and ate them. That is why it is called Budae Jjigae because Budae in Korean is army and Jjigae is stew in Korean, so it means that it is a army stew. Budae Jjigae is spicy and tasty. It has this addicting taste in it that makes you want to eat it more. It tastes a bit similar to Kimchi Jjigae because it contains Kimchi too.
