What is Donkatsu(Korean)?

Donkatsu is a Korean pork cutlet. It is usually known as a Japanese food but there are many different kinds of it. In Korea we have special sauces that is spread on top of the meat. The meat is deep fried and crispy. People in Korea usually eat it with rice, small side dish salad, and dan mu ji which is a Korean yellow pickled radish. Long time ago in Korea people couldn’t eat Donkatsu as often like today because it was very expensive in those days. Only rich people could go to a restaurant and eat Donkatsu. Even the rich people couldn’t eat it that often, so they ate it only one special days.

What is Bossam?

Bossam is a Korean pork dish. It is a thinly sliced pork meat that is boiled in a broth of spices. Bossam is usually eaten with radish kimchi or normal kimchi, raw garlics, ssamjang which is a special Korean sauce, saeu jeot which is small shrimps that are salted with salt, and other vegetables. People usually eat it with salty side dishes because it would be too greasy if they don’t eat anything salty.

What is Samgyetang?

Samgyetang is a Korean chicken soup. It is made with chicken, ginseng, different kinds of spices, and sticky rice. The chicken is cooked in boiling broth made with ginseng and spices. The sticky rice is used to stuffed inside the chicken so that later on when you eat the chicken you will have some sticky rice to eat with. Samgyetang is usually eaten in summer because it is a good stamina food to eat when you don’t have energy form of the heat or anything. Many eat this in the fall and the winters too because it is warm so it heats your body. You would taste a lot of ginseng and other kinds of spices when eat Samgyetang.

What is Hobakjuk?

Hobakjuk is a Korean pumpkin porridge. It is made with pumpkins and sugars. It is sweet, warm, and good. Most of the times people put special rice cakes inside the porridge and heat it together so that the taste will be better. Many eat this for snack or dessert but sometimes people eat this for breakfast too! It is popular during the fall and the winter because it is cold but this porridge would help you get warm. Many people give Hobakjuk to those who had surgeries because it means to get well sooner or heal faster. On top of it some people put some nuts so that the nuttiness will blend in with the flavour of it.
